SUMMARY:Windy City Rollers Against the Nation's Best:
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, September 20\, Chicago's women's flat-track roller derby team\, the Windy City Rollers (WCR) All-Stars\, will be playing their biggest opponent to date -- the nation’s #1 team\, the Kansas City Roller Warriors (KCRW) All-Stars. This will be the first meeting of the two all-star teams\, the traveling teams for their respective cities\, in what will be one of the most-anticipated interleague match-ups in women's flat-track roller derby this year. With this game\, the WCR makes its final appearance in Cicero Stadium\, located at 1909 S. Laramie\, Cicero. This farewell game on Sept. 20 starts at 7 p.m. and will also be a fan-appreciation night with a chance for each fan to win tickets to the first bout at UIC. The WCR will be moving its games to the UIC Pavilion starting in October.\n\nTwo roller derby powerhouses\, the WCR and KCRW teams exemplify today’s new school of flat-track roller derby. These highly skilled and aggressive teams are comprised of their home leagues' top players and represent the best of the best in the entire Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA\, the national governing body of flat-track roller derby). \nThe WCR All-Stars have a solid 5-2 record in 2008\, with big wins over Tuscon\, Madison\, Grand Rapids\, St. Louis\, and\, most recently\, Minnesota. The WCR's only losses this year have been in back-to-back games against Philadelphia and Carolina at June's East Coast Extravaganza\, an invitational roller derby exhibition. Currently\, the WCR is ranked #3 in the East and #7 in the nation.\n\nIn 2007\, the KCRW All-Stars were the "Cinderella story" of flat-track roller derby. During the 2007 WFTDA Western Regionals\, KCRW shocked everyone with their second-round win over top-ranked Arizona\, which secured them an invitation to the National Championships. At the 2007 WFTDA National Championships\, KCRW came in and bested the Gotham Girls of New York City\, the Eastern Region’s #1 team. KCRW continued to topple all opponents and took the national title that year.\n\nSince winning the 2007 National Championships\, the Kansas City Roller Warriors have played four interleague bouts -- two dominant victories over lower-ranked teams and two nail-biters against others in the Top Five. Their recent game against Texas was a classic battle of the titans with Kansas City coming back from a 20-point deficit with 15 minutes to go\, squeaking by with a 1-point victory. \nThe match-up between the WCR and KCRW promises to be another exciting night of new school roller derby. Windy City looks to continue its winning streak on its home turf\, and be the first defeat of the KCRW’s record season.\n\nFor fan-appreciation night on September 20\, each paid-entry ticket-holder will be entered into a raffle to win tickets to the WCR's first game at the UIC Pavilion on October 25 against the Carolina Rollergirls. The National Anthem for September 20 will be performed by Lake Shore Jive\, Chicago's premier co-ed a capella group (www.lakeshorejive.com). \nFor tickets and more information\, please visit www.windycityrollers.com. \nBout information: \nWindy City Rollers All-Stars vs. Kansas City Roller Warriors All-Stars (Fan Appreciation Night) \nSaturday\, September 20\, 2008 \nDoors: 6 p.m. / Game: 7 p.m. \nTickets: $15 in advance\, $20 at the door \nThe Stadium\, 1909 S.
