SUMMARY:Mermaid
DESCRIPTION:When Cassie\, a trans child who longs to be a mermaid\, meets a grief-stricken drag queen on the verge of giving up\, the unlikely pair form a pure and enrapturing bond that infuses a new sense of purpose and hope into both of their lives. Devyn McDowell shines in their first starring film role as Cassie\, while Obie Award winner Arturo Luíz Soria delivers a moving performance as Pepper. Oscar-winning screenwriter and actor Nat Faxon brings complexity to the tricky role of Cassie’s widowed father\, with comedic actors Alex Moffat and Mary Birdsong in supporting roles. Writer-director Fia Perera’s heartfelt film celebrates empathy\, resilience\, and the power of chosen family through a moving story of gender affirmation. Don't miss a special post-screening Q&A for the film! Tatum Yancey will host a conversation with director Fia Perera.
