Reeling: Fancy Dance

This Sundance-premiering powerhouse, directed by Erica Tremblay in her feature debut, is a riveting crime thriller that delves into the heart of the Seneca-Cayuga Reservation. The film follows Jax, portrayed by rising star Lily Gladstone, and her niece Roki as they navigate the complexities of Indigenous life while searching for their missing family member. Amidst the backdrop of a colonized world and a failing justice system, their journey evolves into a profound exploration of marginalization, community strength, and Native identity. This unflinching narrative, reminiscent of WINTERâ??S BONE, highlights the human costs of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women epidemic and the potential for healing. With standout performances and a narrative that delves deep into the heart of a rarely seen community, FANCY DANCE is a poignant family drama that leaves a lasting impact.
