Reeling: Fireworks

Set in Sicily, 1982, amidst the summer heat and the World Cup frenzy, This poignant drama presents the captivating true story of two teenagers, Gianni and Nino, whose profound love forever alters the landscape of Italian gay rights. Gianni is a quiet mechanic relentlessly bullied for his sexuality. His life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters Nino, whose infectious smile provides a balm for his tormented soul. Their bond grows into a fervent and open romantic relationship in defiance of the harsh moral prejudices of their conservative families and peers. Inspired by the tragic "Giarre" crime that led to the establishment of Italy's first LGBT association, Arcigay, the film weaves a heart-wrenching and tender narrative that mirrors the struggles for gay rights in America.
