FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: For Press Inquiries, Contact Kevin Holt, 773-488-8636 ________________________________________ CERQUA RIVERA DANCE THEATRE PRESENTS THE ANTOJITOS MATINEE, AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR SCHOOL GROUPS, APRIL 25TH, 2008 CHICAGO – March 25, 2008 - Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre (CRDT) will present a special matinee performance of their Spring Concert Series Latin Fire, sponsored by the National Museum of Mexican Art. This educational concert, entitled Antojitos, will feature works concerning Latin and Latin-American influenced life experiences. The internationally flavored choreography will be performed in front of live vocalists, a full jazz orchestra and stunning art backdrops, together highlighting the vibrant and diverse Chicago Latino community. Through an exciting performance, students will see the role music, poetry and historical events and figures have played in the evolution of this extraordinary culture. The Antojitos matinee program will premiere Friday, April 25, 2008 at 11:00am at the National Museum of Mexican Art, 1852 W 19th Street, Chicago, IL 60608. Pieces in the Antojitos program to note: • Voces Inocentes (Innocent Voices), featuring choreography by Eddie Ocampo and original music composition by Producing Director Joe Cerqua, a piece that depicts the unfortunate reality of youth soldiers in Central America. First previewed in Dance Chicago 2006, Voces Inocentes has become “a profound addition to the Cerqua Rivera repertoire” (Lucia Mauro, Chicago Tribune). • Manteca, a piece celebrating the collaboration of Jazz musicians Dizzie Gillespie and Chano Pozo and how their partnership forever transformed Latin flavored Jazz music. The dancers and musicians paint the walls red with this joyful work, choreographed by Wilfredo Rivera. • A veces cuando cierro los ojos… (Sometimes when I close my eyes…), an introspective landscape of dreams inspired by the poems of three Latin writers: Pablo Neruda, Sandra Cisneros, and Marco Tulio Del Arca. The piece features original composition by Resident Composer Dan Hesler and choreography by Wilfredo Rivera. • In Homage of Ibrahim Ferrer, a two-section suite inspired by the life and music of Ibrahim Ferrer of the Buena Vista Social Club, featuring Dos Gardenias and Candela, with choreography by Dionna Pridgeon and musical arrangements by Donald Neale. Following Ferrer's experiences with life and fame, it emulates remembrance and strength with playful pursuit. Tickets to CRDT’s Antojitos will include the reception and performance, $25 general entrance, $20 for seniors and students with ID, $15 for museum members.
