About this event

Our partner organization for July is Lambda Legal For a $10 donation to Equality Illinois, you receive two drink tickets and a ticket for a door prize drawing. About Lamda Legal Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund is the nation's oldest and largest legal organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of LGBT people and those affected by HIV/AIDS through impact litigation, education and public policy work. Lambda Legal has played a role in many legal cases in the U.S. pertaining to gay rights, including the groundbreaking U.S. Supreme Court's 2003 decision invalidating sodomy laws. By working with cases selected for the likelihood of success in establishing positive legal precedents that will affect LGBT people and those affected by HIV/AIDS, Lambda Legal's staff attorneys and network of volunteer cooperating attorneys are able to work on a wide range of cases. Originally envisioned in 1971, New York judges denied Lambda Legal's non-profit application on the grounds that its proposed activities would be contrary to public policy. That ruling was later overturned in a 1973 decision by the New York Court of Appeals, and today Lambda Legal is headquartered in New York, with regional offices in Altanta, Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles.
