AIDS MARATHON TRAINING PROGRAM REGISTRATION DEADLINE APPROACHING
Register Now, Training Begins April 25
WHAT: A few months of training. A lifetime of bragging rights. That’s what runners will get when they join the National AIDS Marathon Training Program. Whether a beginner or a more experienced runner, the National AIDS Marathon Training Program will prepare participants to go the distance and raise money to help fight AIDS. Runners will be fully supported every step of the way with both their fundraising and training goals by experienced staff. In the past 11 years, the program has trained more than 20,000 people and raised more than $80 million for the fight against AIDS.
Each participant will be asked to raise between $1,600 and $3,500 for the fight against AIDS, depending upon the event they choose to run.
The 2009 National AIDS Marathon Training Program registration fee is $95, which includes four to six months of training, depending on the event. The program will cover entrance fees for all races. Participants can sign up to train for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Oct. 11, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon on Aug. 2 or the Maui Marathon in Hawaii on Sept. 20.
Participants who complete the training program will also be able to participate in the AIDS Run/Walk on Oct. 3 for free.
WHY: It’s a great way to get fit, have fun, and make a difference. Plus, 98 percent of runners who complete the training program go on to complete the marathon itself.
WHO: All levels of experience are welcome. Three levels of training designed for different types of runners are available:
Regular Training Program – beginning runners and first-time marathoners;
Intermediate Training Program – runners who have completed a marathon or half marathon;
Advanced Training Program – competitive runners and more experienced marathoners.
WHEN: Training begins April 25, but register NOW for the National AIDS Marathon Training Program. Visit www.aidsmarathon.com for more information.
The Chicago training program benefits the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC). Founded in 1985 by community activists and physicians, AFC is leading the fight against HIV/AIDS and striving to improve the lives of people affected by the epidemic in the Chicago region. By funding prevention programs and vital services such as medical care, food and housing, the AIDS Foundation of Chicago is working to stop new infections while helping to keep people with HIV/AIDS alive until the day there’s a cure.
