About this event

Tender, poignant, and often life changing are the intimate relationships and moments that the women of these short films experience. Whether it’s an affair that extends over the course of years, or a platonic encounter lasting only minutes, these characters share the special bond that can only exist between two women. Admission: $10.00 ($8.00 members), tickets available online: http://reelingfilmfestival.tix.com * Lucha (Maria Breaux, USA, 2009): While President Reagan sends funds and arms to the Salvadorian military, Lucha and Isabella decide their fate. * The Touch (Jane Clark, USA, 2007): At the end of her romance, a Parisian poet receives one final letter from her Islamic lover, which provides inspiration for the poem that helps her heal. * Heart (Amy Gebhardt, Australia, 2008): This film explores the artist/muse relationship between Jacqui Stockdale and Rose Mastroianni as they reunite, years after their original artistic and romantic relationship. * No Words (Tenaya Cleveland, USA, 2009): Two women discover their love for one another…without words. * 510 Meters Above Sea Level (Kerstin Polte, Switzerland, 2008): A bereaved woman’s flight is delayed, and she meets an enigmatic woman in the airport who helps shift her perspective. * Lie Together (Jeanette Buck, USA, 2008): In one afternoon, Margot and Claudia’s relationship is sliced open to reveal those moments when what is, what was, and what could be collide. * Door Prize (Zsa Zsa Gershick, USA, 2009): Stuck in line for the ladies room, a butch woman and a conservative mother from the Midwest find they have more in common than they first assume. About Reeling: Reeling 2009, the second-oldest LGBT film festival in the world, will run November 5th through the 15th, showcasing innovative gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender films from around the globe. Reeling will take place at Landmark’s Century Centre Cinema (2828 N. Clark St.), Film Row Cinema (Columbia College, 1104 S. Wabash Ave.), Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport Ave.), and the Festival’s home base at Chicago Filmmakers (5243 N. Clark St.). As always, Reeling continues to push boundaries and keep the festival’s programming fresh and culturally rich by presenting work from worldwide perspectives and in genres ranging from light-hearted comedy to introspective experimental. Our mission is to recognize the important artistic and socially relevant contributions LGBT filmmakers have made to our culture and to counteract stereotyping with valid, meaningful, and diverse portrayals of LGBT people.
