About this event

Sunday, December 6, 2009, AAUW celebrates the third annual Jane Addams Day in Illinois with an 11:30 am Buffet Luncheon with program by Ellen Frew, Waukegan Historical Society and Ty Roher, Director, Waukegan History Museum at Bowen Park Country Club in Waukegan where in 1912 Addams founded a summer camp for mothers and children of the Hull-House neighborhood that operated until 1965. Reservations & Information 630-985-0320 or www.aauw-il.org/jane.html. Complimentary tours offered 9:00 am - 3:00pm. Additional Data FYI: Jane Addams Day began in down state Dongola, Illinois with a school project to make a difference. AAUW-Carbondale’s political advocacy led to HB 5243 designating December 10, 2007 and hence forth to be Jane Addams Day in Illinois. A native Illinoisan, Addams founded Hull-House in 1881 and initiated social reform methods that formulated how America and the world conduct social reform today. On December 10, 1931 Addams was the first American woman and first Chicagoan (President Obama the second), to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for her decades of peace activism. At the turn of the century Addams was an AAUW member. Thank you, barbara joan zeitz, m.a. Publicity Chair AAUW-IL Jane Addams Day Planning Committee
