Pooja, Sir

Nominated for the Queer Lion at the Venice Film Festival, POOJA, SIR stars Asha Magrati in a powerful lead role as Nepal’s first female detective who is assigned to investigate the disappearance of two boys in a tense border town on the edge of political uprising. What begins as a high-stakes kidnapping quickly unravels into a tangled web of protest, corruption, and deeply rooted discrimination. With time running out and no clear leads, Detective Pooja must partner with Mamata, a sharp local officer from the marginalized Madhesi community, to navigate violent unrest, institutional misogyny, and personal risk, their uneasy alliance becomes a story about visibility, survival, and the cost of doing what’s right.
